Pau Casals Auditorium

The cellist and composer Pau Casals was born in El Vendrell, a town near Tarragona, one of the main Catalan cities. After the Spanish Civil War, he vowed not to return to Spain until democracy was restored. But he never could and died in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1973. In 1979, four years after Franco's death, his remains were laid to rest in his hometown. This building was constructed as a tribute to his person and his work.
