Graun's 'Adriano in Siria' with Sabadus, Mameli, de Sá, Tricou, Fuge & Fiorio from Potsdam
Potsdam Sanssouci Festival. Carl Heinrich Graun's 'Adriano in Siria' is an opera in 3 acts on a libretto by Metastasio with newly composed intermezzi by Massimiliano Toni. The Roman Emperor Hadrian invades Syria as a conqueror. He has taken Emirena, the daughter of the defeated king, hostage - and fallen in love with her. But Emirena already has a bridegroom. The young couple fight desperately for their love: oppressed by Hadrian, the new ruler, who wants to separate them, and by the old king, who wants to make her the instrument of his plans for revenge.
