Händel's 'Alcina' with Labin, Bré, Blondeel, Hasler and Sancho from Beaune
Beaune International Baroque & Romantic Opera Festival. Händel's 'Alcina' is an opera seria. Händel used the libretto of 'L'isola di Alcina', an opera that was set in 1728 in Rome by Riccardo Brosch. Partly altered for better conformity, the story was originally taken from Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando furioso (like those of the Handel operas Orlando and Ariodante), an epic poem. Performers:
Alcina: Ana Maria Labin.
Ruggiero: Ambroisine Bré.
Morgana: Gwendoline Blondeel.
Bradamante: Floriane Hasler.
Oronte: Juan Sancho.
Melisso: Luigi de Donato.
Oberto: Samuel Marino.
Les Épopées. Conductor: Stéphane Fuget.
Recorded 19 July.
