Mills' 'Eucalyptus' with Frahn, Meadows, Petruccelli, Dundas, Jones & Shepherd from Perth
Perth Festival. Jonathan Mills' 'Eucalyptus' is an opera to a libretto by Meredith Oakes, based on Murray Bail’s novel. It is a story of love and longing, about a daughter and a father – Ellen and Holland. Ellen’s overprotective father has created a safe haven from the world – a forest of eucalypts. But is the forest a sanctuary? Or is Ellen, like Rapunzel, imprisoned? Ellen encounters a Stranger amongst her father’s trees – a storyteller with enchanting tales of far-away lands… Performers:
Desiree Frahn: Ellen.
Simon Meadows: Holland.
Michael Petruccelli: The Stranger.
Samuel Dundas: Cave.
Natalie Jones: Sprunt Sister.
Dimity Shepherd: Sprunt Sister.
West Australian Opera Chorus. West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Conductor: Tahu Matheson.
Recorded 22 February.
